What Is Next: Your Programming Journey

A friendly map of where coding can take you

Big Idea: You have finished the foundations! Programming is not one single road — it is a whole map with many branches. You can build websites, games, work with data, teach an AI, or bring a robot to life. Now you get to choose which path to explore next.
By the end you will be able to:
  • name the main branches of programming,
  • say what each branch is used for,
  • describe simple habits that help you keep growing as a coder.

1. Programming is a map, not one road

When you started, you learned the foundations: what code is, giving clear steps, loops, if-then choices, and finding bugs. These ideas are like learning to read — once you have them, you can read any book.

Now the map opens up. Each branch below uses the same foundations you already know. You do not have to pick just one, and you do not have to decide today. Explorers try different paths and see which ones they enjoy most.

2. The five big branches

All five branches grow from the same trunk — the foundations you just finished. Let us look at each one.
