🌿 Biology — The Science of Living Nature

Your first step into the amazing world of life!

🔍 A Mystery to Start With…

Imagine you are walking through a forest. You see a tall oak tree, a squirrel running along a branch, a mushroom growing near a stump, green moss on a rock, and the rock itself. You also notice a stream flowing nearby and a cloud drifting across the sky.

Here's the mystery: Which of these things are alive? And how can you tell for sure?

To answer this question, we need a special science — one that studies everything that is alive. That science is called Biology.

📖 What Is Biology?

Biology is the scientific study of living things. The word comes from two ancient Greek words:

  • "bios" (βίος) — meaning life
  • "logos" (λόγος) — meaning study or knowledge

So, biology literally means "the study of life."

A person who studies biology is called a biologist. Biologists try to understand the natural world and all the things that live in it — plants, animals, fungi, and even tiny creatures so small you need a microscope to see them!
