🔬 What Is a Plant Cell?

A plant cell is the basic unit of life found in the tissues of all plants. It is a eukaryotic cell, meaning it has a true nucleus enclosed by a membrane, along with various specialized organelles (tiny "organs" inside the cell).

Key Idea: Plant cells share many features with animal cells, but they also have three unique structures that set them apart:
  1. Cell Wall — a rigid outer layer made of cellulose
  2. Chloroplasts — organelles that carry out photosynthesis
  3. Large Central Vacuole — a water-filled sac that can occupy up to 90% of the cell
