Regulation and Control

Biology Grade 8 Difficulty 2/5

Beginning of the lesson

The Nervous & Endocrine Systems: Regulation and Control

Your body has two major command systems that keep everything running smoothly. Let's explore how they work — individually and together.

🧠 Why Does Your Body Need Regulation?

Every second, your body is performing thousands of tasks — digesting food, pumping blood, sensing temperature, growing, and repairing cells. To coordinate all of this, your body relies on two primary regulatory systems:

⚡ The Nervous System

Uses electrical impulses for fast, short-lived responses (milliseconds).

🧪 The Endocrine System

Uses chemical signals (hormones) for slower, longer-lasting responses (seconds to hours).

Key Concept — Homeostasis: Both systems work to maintain homeostasis, the body's ability to keep internal conditions stable (like temperature, blood sugar, and water balance) even when the external environment changes.
