Introduction to Logic and Truth Tables

Logic is a way of reasoning that helps us determine whether statements are true or false. In mathematics and computer science, we use formal logic to make precise arguments and solve problems.

Logical Statements

A logical statement (or proposition) is a sentence that is either true (T) or false (F), but not both. These truth values form the foundation of mathematical logic.

For example:

  • "8 is greater than 5" is a logical statement (and it's true).
  • "x + 3 = 10" is not a logical statement by itself because we don't know if it's true or false until we know what x is.
