Theorem about Relationships between Sides and Angles of a Triangle

Grade 7 Geometry — Understanding how sides and angles are connected

📐 Introduction: The Side-Angle Connection

In every triangle, there is a direct relationship between the size of a side and the size of the angle opposite to it. This is one of the most fundamental facts in geometry:

Key Idea: Larger sides correspond to larger opposite angles, and larger angles correspond to larger opposite sides.

This theorem has two parts that are converse statements of each other:

Part 1 (Side → Angle)

If one side is longer than another, then the angle opposite the longer side is greater than the angle opposite the shorter side.

Part 2 (Angle → Side)

If one angle is greater than another, then the side opposite the greater angle is longer than the side opposite the smaller angle.

🔍 Interactive Exploration: Sides and Opposite Angles

Observe how the longest side (shown in red) is always opposite the largest angle. The shortest side (shown in green) is opposite the smallest angle.
