Basic Problems in Coordinate Geometry

Big Idea: Coordinate geometry (also called analytic geometry) bridges algebra and geometry by placing geometric figures on a coordinate plane. This lets us solve geometric problems using algebraic equations and formulas.

1. The Coordinate Plane

Every point in the plane is described by an ordered pair $(x, y)$, where $x$ is the horizontal distance from the origin and $y$ is the vertical distance from the origin.
