Measurement with Non-Standard Units

Mathematics Grade 1 Difficulty 2/5

Beginning of the lesson

Measurement with non-standard units

We measure things every day!

Measuring tells us how big something is.

We can measure with many things:

  • Paper clips
  • Blocks
  • Hands
  • Feet
  • Crayons

These are non-standard units.

That means they are not rulers.

We can measure:

  • How long
  • How tall
  • How wide

Remember: Line up your units!

No gaps between units!

No overlapping units!
