Motion Problems: Speed, Time, and Distance

What is Motion?

Motion means moving from one place to another. When you walk to school, ride your bike, or travel in a car, you're in motion!

To describe motion, we need three important things:

  • Distance: How far you traveled
  • Speed: How fast you moved
  • Time: How long it took

These three things are connected like pieces of a puzzle. If you know two of them, you can always find the third!

All three are connected!

Understanding Distance

Distance tells us how far something traveled. It's the length of the path from start to finish.

Common units of distance:

  • Kilometers (km): Long distances (like driving)
  • Meters (m): Medium distances (like running)
  • Centimeters (cm): Short distances (like walking across a room)
