Complex River Motion Problems
Welcome to an exciting journey where we'll learn to solve tricky problems about boats, rafts, and rivers using a clever mathematical trick!
What Are River Motion Problems?
River motion problems involve objects (boats, ships, rafts) moving on a river where the water current affects their speed.
Two Types of Movement:
- Downstream (по течению) — moving WITH the current (faster!)
- Upstream (против течения) — moving AGAINST the current (slower!)
Think of it like walking on a moving walkway at the airport:
- Walking with the walkway = you go faster
- Walking against the walkway = you go slower

The Big Idea: Treating Distance as 1
The Unity Method
In complex problems, we treat the entire journey distance as 1 (one complete trip).
This is similar to work problems where we say "the whole job = 1".
Why Use Distance = 1?
- ✅ Simplifies calculations with fractions
- ✅ Avoids dealing with specific distances
- ✅ Focuses on relationships between speeds
- ✅ Makes complex problems manageable
Key Relationship
Speed = 1/Time
If a boat travels the whole distance in 4 hours,
its speed = ¼ of the distance per hour
