Simple Events and Outcomes

When something happens, we call it an event.

The things that can happen are called outcomes.

For example:

  • Flipping a coin is an event.
  • Getting heads or tails are the outcomes.

Some events have only a few outcomes:

  • A coin has 2 outcomes: heads or tails.
  • A die has 6 outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
  • Picking a color block can have many outcomes.

All outcomes have the same chance to happen.

This is called probability.

Remember: Each outcome has an equal chance!
