π¦ What is a Rectangle?
π Definition
A rectangle is a special shape with:
- β 4 sides (four straight lines)
- β 4 corners (called vertices)
- β 4 right angles (like the corner of a book!)
π€ Why is it called a "Rectangle"?
"Rect" means right
"Angle" means corner
So a rectangle has right angles at every corner! π

π Parts of a Rectangle
4 Sides
π
- 2 Lengths (longer sides)
- 2 Widths (shorter sides)
4 Vertices
π
Vertices are the corners where two sides meet!
We name them: A, B, C, D
4 Right Angles
π
Each corner is exactly 90Β°
Like the corner of your book! π
β Main Property: Opposite Sides are Equal!

π― The Big Rule!
In a rectangle:
β Orange sides (lengths) are EQUAL
β Green sides (widths) are EQUAL
Written as:
AB = CD and BC = DA
π Remember:
- Length = the LONGER side
- Width = the SHORTER side
