Symmetry and Congruence

Mathematics Grade 2 Difficulty 2/5

Beginning of the lesson

Symmetry and Congruence

What is Symmetry?

Symmetry means both sides match! You can check with a fold or a mirror line.

Fold a shape down the middle.

If both sides match perfectly, it has symmetry!

Fold Line

What is Congruence?

Congruent shapes are exactly the same! They can be turned or flipped and still match.

Same size. Same shape.

They match if you put them together.

These squares are congruent!

Interactive Examples

Now you try! Test symmetry and congruence with these activities.

Symmetry Explorer

Drag the blue line. If the overlay matches perfectly, you found a line of symmetry!
