๐Ÿงฎ Adding Two-Digit Numbers Without Regrouping

Hello, friend! Today we'll learn to add big numbers easily and simply! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ“ฆ 1. What is "place value"?

Every two-digit number consists of tens and ones!

๐Ÿ  Imagine that a number lives in a house with two rooms:

  • Left room โ€” for tens (big blocks of 10)
  • Right room โ€” for ones (small blocks of 1)
TENS ONES 4 5 Number 45 = 40 + 5 (4 tens and 5 ones)

23

2 tens (20)

3 ones (3)

23 = 20 + 3

56

5 tens (50)

6 ones (6)

56 = 50 + 6

71

7 tens (70)

1 one (1)

71 = 70 + 1

๐Ÿค” 2. What does "without regrouping" mean?

โœ… It's very simple!

"Without regrouping" means that when we add:

  • Ones + ones = less than 10
  • Tens + tens = less than 10
โœ… WITHOUT regrouping

23 + 14

Ones: 3 + 4 = 7 (less than 10 โœ“)

Tens: 2 + 1 = 3 (less than 10 โœ“)

โŒ WITH regrouping (this is harder!)

28 + 15

Ones: 8 + 5 = 13 (more than 10 โœ—)

We'll learn this later!
