Mathematics Grade 3 Difficulty 2/5

Beginning of the lesson

⏰ Understanding Time!

What is Time?

Time is how we measure when things happen and how long they last. We use time every day to know when to wake up, when to go to school, and when to play!

📏 Units of Time (From Smallest to Largest)

1. Second (s) - The Smallest Unit

A second is a very short amount of time. Try clapping once - that's about one second!

Try this: Count "one-Mississippi" - that's one second!

2. Minute (min)

A minute is longer than a second. There are 60 seconds in 1 minute.

60 seconds=1 minute
1 Minute = 60 Seconds... 60 dots total!

3. Hour (h)

An hour is even longer! There are 60 minutes in 1 hour.

60 minutes=1 hour

Think about it: Your favorite TV show might be 1 hour long!

4. Day

A day is the time from one midnight to the next midnight. There are 24 hours in 1 day.

24 hours=1 day
Day (12 hours)Night (12 hours)+24 hours = 1 full day!

5. Week

A week has 7 days. Can you name all seven days?

6. Month

A month is about 30 days (some months have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days).

Months with 31 days: January, March, May, July, August, October, December

Months with 30 days: April, June, September, November

Month with 28 or 29 days: February

7. Year

A year is the longest unit we'll learn! There are 12 months or 365 days in one year.

12 months=1 year
365 days=1 year

Fun Fact: Every 4 years, we have a leap year with 366 days!
